The Swedish team behind Mindé

Swedish architectural team Claesson Koivisto Rune (CKR), founded in Stockholm in 1995, is an internationally acclaimed studio with an emphasis on both architecture and design. Their projects have included buildings, hotels, homes, shops, furniture, and more. A recent Japan project was the Hotel K5 boutique hotel in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.
In 2021, King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf presented the founders with The Prince Eugen Medal for outstanding artistic achievement in architecture (2020).
Claesson Koivisto Rune’s award-winning designs feature in the collections of more than 80 international brands: Arflex, Artifort, Asplund, Boffi, Capdell, Cappellini, David design, Dux, Emmegi, Fontana Arte, Kasthall, Living Divani, Modus, Muuto, Nikari, Offecct, Paola Lenti, Smaller Objects, Studio TK, Tacchini, Wästberg, among others.
Claesson Koivisto Rune is represented in the permanent collection of Sweden’s museum of art and design, Nationalmuseum, with three further designs added during 2022; Wafer chair, Sfera chair & Font table.
Mindé Niseko will be their first project in Niseko, Japan.

Ola Rune explains the Mindé concept: “After experimenting with various forms, we found that long, curved facades provided more views from multiple rooms and established a strong visual identity.” This, he says, is the unique “eye shape” of the building, with two broad facades, each facing toward a mountain.

“The long facades gave us the opportunity to work with varied window sizes, which broke up the monotony and maximized views from the inside. By harmonising terrace openings with the windows, we created a unified facade where the view became a central part of the building’s design.”
